I need more Red in my life

I don’t know what’s been going on lately guys, but all I’ve been buying is black. More jeans, more tops, more frocks… all black. It’s a downright travesty. We’re in the middle of summer – it’s allowed, nay, required for wardrobes to be bursting with colour.

I’ll start with my favourite one: red.

You’d think red is an aggressive colour to be worn with care – and you’d be half right. It is a sassy AF colour and can and will make any outfit super fierce in a hot minute, but it’s not all bolshie drama. It’s about how it makes you feel like you can take on the world.

Red has confidence bordering on insolence and a deep contempt for the dim, flat colours of the world. It makes your step spring. It makes you flick your hair like you’d flip a finger. I AM RED, HEAR ME ROAR. That sort of thing.

I know there are a few myths about wearing red. Let me dispel these right now:

Redheads can’t wear red.

What a load of poppycock. Redheads are born with the colour (or dyed it on and rocking it) so they should have first dibs on it. Y’all look fabulous, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

You can’t wear red and green together.

I call bullshit on this – opposite colours look awesome together. You don’t have to (unless you want to) look like a Christmas tree but like a style queen like here.

Red is only for a pop of colour.

Untrue! Red can also be a pop of colour, or it can be your entire look. There’s a million and one shades of red, all ready to be adored by you. Be brave. Be fierce. Rock your personal runway.

Red is such an aggressive colour.

Yes, a little. It’s also the colour of love, of passion, desire, heat, longing, lust, sexuality, sensitivity, romance, joy, strength, leadership, courage, vigor, willpower, rage, anger, danger, malice, wrath, stress, action, vibrance, radiance, and determination. And you honey, you can be whatever you want.

What’s the most badass red garment in your wardrobe? Tell me all about it!

  • I’ve always had a hard time wearing red because I am so pale! I feel like it makes me look translucent or sickly. haha My best red “garment” is a purse actually. I love it! It’s Betsy Johnson and it has a big red bow. I actually got it discounted because it had a small defect. Nobody every notices it. It’s awesome. 🙂
