I don’t like the foundation the internet is going mad for

Right, I’m going to come clean straight away. I am a fan or the Ordinary as a brand; a part of DECIEM, this brand does not test on animals and doesn’t pay others to do so either (which is why none of their brands are sold in mainland China because that, my friends, requires animal testing for registration purposes) and they focus on offering familiar, effective clinical technologies positioned to raise “pricing and communication integrity” in skincare.

So yeah, I like them just fine. I just don’t like their foundation, unlike every other person on the planet it seems. Let me explain.

When the Ordinary Coverage Foundation hit the market the Internet went crazy mad over it and it literally sold out everywhere. Blogs and vlogs were flooded with people, far savvier than me in the ways of makeup know-how, praising the daylights out of this super affordable, less than £6 foundation.

So what’s a girl to do? I mean I could keep pouring a fortune in my Holy Grail foundations (Estee Lauder Double Wear for around £33 or Revlon ColorStay for Combination/Oily Skin for around £13) or I could give this budget friendly foundation with glowing reviews a go.

The only problem is that it just doesn’t work for me. I tried it with three different primers (Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Lightweight Primer, Barry M Flawless Original Primer and L’Oreal Paris Infallible Primer Matte Base) and finished it with a setting spray every time (Barry M Flawless Mist & Fix Makeup Setting Spray Matte) but it just… didn’t work.

For some reason the foundation seems to enlarge my pores (and that takes some doing considering they are enormous already) yet provided little to no coverage. It didn’t keep my plentiful oils at bay at all, I had to touch it up almost immediately once I got to work (an hour after applying) and it caked around my chin, nose and forehead after that. By the time I got home, most of the foundation had melted off.

I tried different ways of applying it, with a brush, with my fingers and with a beauty blender. I tried powdering my nose before applying the foundation. I tried setting my primer with a setting spray before applying the foundation. But nothing. There literally was nothing I could do to make this foundation stick to my skin for longer than a few hours.

And it’s really sad, guys. I really, really wanted to like this foundation because, look at the price, and because, well, everyone else seems to like it too but I just really can’t. It just didn’t work for me. Sorry Internet.

Have you tried the Ordinary Coverage Foundation? What did you make of it? Am I alone in this?
  • Although i love the brand and i use so many products in my daily and evening routine, foundation is not one these products. I have only tried the serum foundation but it didn’t worked for my dry skin! Love your honest review Katja!

I have never heard of it. Its crazy I was just saying I have to step up my game in 2018 so i can be up on whats being discussed in these beauty streets.

Hmm, I haven’t heard of this before 😀 I guess that’s a good thing. Damn I love your reviews, so honest!

Hey, so refreshing to see an honest review that is critical and not just singing praises! Foundation is such a personal product, for example I love NARS but not their foundation, and after trying over 30 I still haven’t found ‘the one’.

  • Oh, what a shame! I haven’t tried this out yet but I really wanted to. For £6 I might still give it a go but I’m not expecting much now.

  • Oh that doesn’t sound great! Every beauty blogger/vlogger out there seems to be jumping on this ‘Ordinary’ band wagon. Glad you gave an honest review though because I think a lot of beauty bloggers hype up products too much!
    Much love, caitylis x x

I haven’t heard of Ordinary as a brand yet, so thanks for introducing it to me. It seems like I will stay with my all-time-favourites bobbi brown and clinique! 🙂

It’s such a shame though! I really wanted to like them. Shame it didn’t work out. xx

  • So sorry to heard about this problem, I respect about your honestly review about this product. Yes, every skin has different react into beauty product. I hope you can still find the right product for your face. Good luck dear.
