Friday Feature: 5 things making me happy right now

I know I got a bit distracted last week about what I was supposed to be happy about, so I feel like I owe it to you guys to elaborate about the state of my happy thoughts. Spoiler alert: they are in full working order. Here’s 5 things that have made me happy this week.

1. It’s almost autumn

I am not built for warm weather, and whereas I am really happy that this summer wasn’t nearly as wet and full of gale winds like the last decade (I may exaggerate but that’s how I remember it) it’s now September and the heatwave we experienced in the past week is just unnatural. We should be heading towards darker nights, crisp mornings and coats and scarves and the endless debate of whether it’s too early to put the heating on. But also candle lit evenings with a cuppa while tucked underneath a blankie. Autumn is my favourite time of the year so excuse me while I am wishing the summer away and looking forward to cooler weather.

2. Lady Grey / Gandalf

So hubby and I are finally mobile. We’ve been talking about buying a car for a while now and joined about a hundred used car sales groups on Facebook, only to have his folks tell us they were getting a new car and the one they had was a bit redundant. So instead of sending the poor Toyota Starlet to “the farm upstate” we homed it. The little fella was first called Lady Grey because hubby loves his tea (and had just the night before consumed some Earl Grey infused beer) but after sleeping on it, he decided that my suggestion of Gandalf (the Grey, because the car is grey, see what I did there) was more suitable. Sure, it’s not a brand new Merc but it’s very quickly taken over our hearts. Here’s to many a mile together you beautiful little beast.

3. Urban Decay Mega Matte Vice 714 lipstick

I never thought such a small item would bring me so much happiness. Probably partly because, and I will admit it, I have never ever owned a lippy before. Somehow I cruised through my life for over 30 years without ever thinking that I needed any. I have had the odd lip gloss but that’s pretty much it. Then I was introduced to this beauty with so much cojones it kind of took me by surprise. I love the kick-ass red colour, I love how easy it is to apply and I love how long-lasting it is, even while sipping beer / wine / cocktails all night. If you only invest into one lipstick this year make it this one and thank me later.

4. First anniversary

7 weeks today and it’s time for my first wedding anniversary. I remember when I was planning the wedding and it felt like it was eons away, until then suddenly it was there and I had to say I do and boom, I was married. I have no idea where time has gone since then, a year has passed so quickly it’s unreal. But we haven’t killed each other in 12 months so I think it’s safe to say we probably won’t do it going forward. But if I do go missing for a prolonged period of time do start asking questions, even if you wouldn’t judge poor hubby. Haha.

5. Co-operative foods limited edition Coronation Chicken Sandwich

I’ll admit it – I am sucker for some curry flavoured sarnies. But I am also the biggest snob when it comes to Coronation Chickens. Are there sultanas? If so, how many? How much curry powder did they use? Mango chutney? Is the mayo of good quality? What kind of bread is it on? This could go on forever. But if you want to know what is my take on the perfect Coronation Chicken sarnie, it would probably be this. I picked one up the other morning because I was just too busy to make time to prepare a lunch for work and I was in and out of meetings all day so would have no time to pop out either. But boy am I glad I did!  Soft, seeded bread, perfect balance of spice, just enough filling. Try it. You’re welcome.

And that’s it for today! Have a great weekend guys!

What’s making you happy this week? Let me know in the comments!

  • such a cute post, it’s nice to focus on the little things that make you happy rather than the negatives 🙂

  • This is actually so cute, we should all see the happiness in things that seem so simple but are a part of our everyday life. It can make us much of a happier person.
