Right. This post is unashamedly basking in the glorious light that is The Edinburgh Larder. The breakfast game is strong with these guys and I’ll tell you exactly why.
Launched in 2009, The Edinburgh Larder Café professes to love making homemade granola, porridge cooked to order with a selection of toppings, or wedges of toast with homemade jam. They bake cakes, brownies and scones. Say the word and they’ll muster up a full breakfast, scrambled eggs with salmon, bacon or sausage or whatever you fancy really.
They use local produce, like coffee beans beans roasted in Edinburgh by Williams & Johnson or teas blended by Edinburgh based Eteaket.
Hubby and I happened upon this place on our pit stop to Edinburgh, and boy are we glad we waited for about half an hour to get a table. We were lucky, there was a party of five behind us and I think they waited longer. We shared one of the bigger tables with some breakfast having folk already there but there’s something magical about this place: it makes everyone really great friends and no one seems to care if a complete stranger pops to your table and joins you for brekkie.
There’s a real air of hustle and bustle in the Larder, with people chatting over their lattes and bacon sarnies and the staff effortlessly gliding through what can only be described as a snug space. Yet, it all feels really unhurried and you never feel like you need to rush you grub down your gob and make room for the next lot of punters. I’m rather sure it’s because how the staff make you feel, and their expertise in filling seats in the most unconventional ways.
Everyone gets fed, and everyone is happy.
And the food itself then? It’s blooming divine. You can tell that it’s made with love, with local produce and that some real thought went into the menu. Their coffee is also probably one of the best I’ve had in a long time.
For your Edinburgh based breakfast needs, the Larder is a must. Just be prepared to wait to be seated and possibly to make new friends over your granola.
