If I didn’t live in Cheshire where arguably the best breweries lie, I’d be totally envious of London. On a quick day trip there for work, hubby and I popped in the CraftBeerCo in Covent Garden and kinda just never wanted to leave.
Opened in May 2014, the Covent Garden venue is the sixth pub in the CraftBeerCo chain which boasts the largest tap selection in the UK.
They may have point. I mean, they have 30 keg lines, 15 cask pumps and over 200 bottles and cans. Say what?!?
And, not content with serving beer by the bucket-load, the pub also serves a selection of handmade snacks from some of their favourite independent producers. And, food is available 7 days a week courtesy of the delicious Prairie Fire BBQ.
It’s such a central location in the middle of everything (and just around the corner from a street filled to the brim with stores selling any kind of musical instrument you can imagine, as hubby found *sigh*) getting there is an absolute breeze. While we were there a bunch of suited and booted folks came in for a quick one before disappearing to the hustle and bustle on London streets again, so we can only deduce it’s rather popular as a lunch pit stop too.
The staff know pretty much everything there is to know about their tipples, and respond to scarcely understandable requests (“I’m in the market for something grapefruitey but not too tart and maybe some hops too OK KTHXBAI”) with inspirational suggestions (they suggested Pale Fire from Pressure Drop, by the way. Top choice) and boy can they keep their beer well.
It’s also a little bit quirky in there, you know. Kinda industrial revolution meets good old fashioned pub of old. Apart from the downstairs. The downstairs has a little gothy vibe.
