Ankle boots are the marmite of fashion, I find. You either love ‘em or you hate ‘em. To me, they were a slow burner. I used to think they look weird with skinny jeans or dresses but it turned out I wasn’t wearing them right and the fact that I looked a little ridiculous with them wasn’t actually the fault of the ankle boots, it was mine. Sorry, boots.
But since our love affair has started, it has just grown (in affection as much as in budget, to be honest) and through trial and error I’ve kind of learned how to style them so that I don’t look like a complete fashion victim. I mean obviously everyone has their own style and it’s always different stokes for different shaped folks, but there are a few rule of thumb I think everyone should follow.
DON’T tuck loose fitting trousers into the boots. Just… Just trust me on this.
DON’T wear your ankle booties with cropped tights – it looks really weird.
DO wear with skinny jeans – it’s like they were meant to be together.
DO wear them with skirts and dresses – they look fabulous with so many lengths… But
DON’T wear a midi pencil skirt – it just doesn’t go, no matter what fashion magazines tell you.
And most importantly: DON’T settle for just one pair. There’s so many beautiful styles out there right now that you’d be committing a fashion crime if you didn’t invest into a good few. I mean check my wishlist. Aren’t these babies just blooming adorable? It can’t be just me, come on.
I’m totally into patterned booties right now and I don’t care how much my bank account will cry about it – on payday I’m hitting the online stores hard and getting more pieces to my collection.
Indulge me in my ankle booties obsession in the comments y’all. Let’s spread some bootie love. ❤️❤️
